I am a licensed psychologist and board certified biofeedback practitioner specializing in helping individuals change, grow, and heal in the context of their often complex lives. My approach is that of a consultant, an educator, a coach, or a guide: collaborative, compassionate, direct and focused on what matters most to you. In my work with people with anxiety I use an integrative approach that addresses both mind and body and focuses on wellness, health, and quality of life. I keep up with what is current in evidence-based research while remaining clinically flexible and committed to utilizing approaches that are a good fit for you and your life.
Life is filled with obstacles and difficulties--the normal course of life can be stressful. A healthy, vibrant, meaningful life requires attention and maintenance. You do not need to be sick or impaired to seek help improving your life. This work can help your life in the same way that tending your garden helps it to grow healthy, strong and fruitful. Some people see me for 4-12 sessions to address a specific problem while others come at various times throughout their lives to help them cope with challenges, to assist as they navigate a difficult time of life, or to assist them in creating a more joyous, meaningful life. Whether you want to work on one specific problem or make extensive life changes support, education and guidance can help.
Treatment Modalities:
In addition to psychotherapeutic modalities like cognitive behavioral therapy and mindfulness approaches, I am pleased to also be able to offer biofeedback and cranial electrotherapy stimulation. Biofeedback is a safe, effective, noninvasive procedure. It is a process that enables an individual to learn how to change their physiological activity in order to improve health and performance. Precise instruments measure physiological activity such as heart function, breathing, muscle activity, and skin temperature. These instruments rapidly and accurately "feed back" information to the user.
The presentation of this information, often in conjunction with changes in thinking, emotions, and behavior, supports real desired physiological changes. Over time with practice, these changes can be maintained without continued use of an instrument. Biofeedback has been demonstrated to be helpful with many mind-body difficulties including anxiety and stress-related disorders. I am also trained in the use of cranial electrotherapy, including the FDA approved Alpha-Stim SCS unit for the treatment of anxiety.
