Description Hi. My approach is active and collaborative, flexibly tailoring evidence-based strategies to best meet the needs of clients. I have significant expertise working with individuals and couples on issues related to trauma and posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), excessive worrying, and panic attacks. Most clients with whom I work also experience one or more of these common problems that frequently co-occur with anxiety-related distress: insomnia, depression, strained relationships, excessive alcohol or drug use, and difficulty with decision making.
To each session, I bring a wealth of knowledge and experience gained from many years of clinical and research training. Clients bring a lifetime of personal history and experience. Together, we work to understand and resolve the problems you face. I offer counseling/therapy, clinical consultation, and diagnostic evaluation. Clients tend to be young to middle-aged professionals, college/graduate students, and older adolescents. I have expertise in working with veterans, military servicemembers, and their families. For more information or to schedule a free 15 minute phone consultation, please email ( mfreed@cbhw.org ), call (301.502.4667), or visit my website (www.cbhw.org).
I am also a Research Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry, and a Scientist in the Center for the Study of Traumatic Stress (CSTS), both at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences (USUHS) in Bethesda, MD. These positions keep me connected to current advances in the field.
