Socrates said, “The unexamined life is not worth living.”
People spend their lives pursuing various goals sometimes without asking themselves if these are important. Our society discourages self-awareness with a weekly cycle of working and consuming that prevents slowing down for self-reflection. Socrates believed that the purpose of human life was personal and spiritual growth. We can accelerate our growth when we take time to examine and reflect upon our lives. Choosing psychotherapy can provide time each week to devote to this examination without distractions, intrusions, or demands from others. This is time which you set aside for yourself to do this important work which only you can do.
In the presence of a trained, objective listener you can hear your hopes and dreams, and recognize the barriers to their achievement. Examining your life can reveal patterns of behavior and provide insight into the unconscious programming, the powerful software, that runs your life. Becoming aware of these patterns can break the unconscious repetition of failed strategies, and open you to giving and getting the love you want. It’s never too late to reap the rewards of self-examination.
